Chapter 01 / Nevada rules

# Permission has a person, a procedure and a place.

A med-spa sign tells you very little about who can inject or what supervision a procedure needs. Ask about the person doing the work, the injection being offered and the place where it happens.

As of October 2026 · Nevada rules

## A license has limits.

Nevada's [rule for wrinkle-relaxing injections](https://www.leg.state.nv.us/NRS/NRS-454.html), called neuromodulators, lists doctors, physician assistants, registered nurses and advanced practice registered nurses. Dentists and podiatric physicians are also listed, with training required by their boards. Everyone must stay within their professional scope: the work their license allows.

### Try this question

“What kind of license do you hold, and does it allow this injection?” Ask for the full name, too, so there's something to look up afterward.

Being on that list doesn't give someone permission to perform every procedure. Keep the question tied to the injection you're discussing. Ask what training they have for that work.

Nevada's [filler injection rule](https://www.leg.state.nv.us/NRS/NRS-629.html) lists the same professional groups. It also limits them to work within their scope. These two rules cover specific injections, rather than every service a med spa might offer.

## Place is part of permission.

Both laws allow these injections only in a medical facility or the office of a doctor, physician assistant, dentist, advanced practice registered nurse or podiatric physician. A registered nurse's own office isn't included in that office list.

Ask: “How does this location qualify under the rule?” The laws also prohibit passing the injection to someone they exclude. Having a supervisor doesn't remove that limit.

## Look up the person by name.

Nevada has separate boards for doctors: the [Medical Examiners board](https://medboard.nv.gov/) for MDs and the [Osteopathic Medicine board](https://www.bom.nv.gov/) for DOs. Physician assistants may be licensed by either board. The [nursing board](https://nevadanursingboard.org/) links a check for an active Nevada nursing license or certificate.

### Keep one useful note

Write down the full name, license type, procedure and location. Use that note when checking a record or asking a follow-up question. If the proposed injection changes, return to the same questions. Keep the answer tied to the work now being discussed.

Match the board to the person's license. Check more than a matching surname, and ask the board if you can't make sense of a record. A missing result is something to clarify.

Keep the lookup in perspective: it isn't a personal treatment recommendation. For questions about who needs to supervise an injection, the [nursing supervision chapter](/supervision) explains the next part.
